VSOs Win Retroactive Benefits Payments for Veterans

In January 2023, a Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) veteran service officer (VSO) helped a female veteran file a claim for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) due to military sexual trauma (MST). The claim was approved in May 2024 at 100% total and permanent disability retroactively to August 2022, when an Intent to File was submitted. She received a retroactive payment of $43,000.

Another veteran filed a new claim for ischemic heart disease and hypertension resulting from service. He was awarded 100% disability for ischemic heart disease an 0% for hypertension. The result was a retroactive payment of $37,525 and monthly payments of more than $4,000 due to his being housebound.

Contact a VVA Veteran Service Officer to assist with your claim in states that have a benefits program here, or search for a VSO from another organization through the VA’s website in states where we do not. Enter your ZIP code or city and state, and you’ll see which VSOs serve your area.
