Veteran Spouses Can Access Benefits, Too

Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) veteran service officer (VSOs) in Massachusetts helped several veteran spouses receive compensation last November.

One surviving spouse was approved for dependency and indemnity compensation (DIC), receiving $11,000 in retroactive pay and a monthly DIC payment of $1,613. Another was approved for DIC and substitution, receiving a retroactive payment of $52,000. And a third surviving spouse applied for — and received — DIC compensation and burial expenses.

Contact a VVA Veteran Service Officer to assist with your claim in states that have a benefits program here, or search for a VSO from another organization through the VA’s website in states where we do not. Enter your ZIP code or city and state, and you’ll see which VSOs serve your area.
