Veteran Makes Supplemental Claim Following Denial

A 100% unemployable 78-year-old Vietnam-era veteran visited the Vietnam Veterans of America’s Massachusetts VSOs with his wife after being denied caregiver support by the state’s Caregiver Program.

Following a benefits counseling session, VSO Steve Schultze set up an appointment for the veteran to bring in the denial letter and any medical evidence necessary to start a supplemental claim.

During the appointment, Schultze scheduled a medical evaluation for the veteran and got a letter from the Commission of the Blind stating that the veteran was legally blind. The office also helped the veteran add his spouse to his claim and access a fresh copy of his DD214 form, which he had misplaced.

VSOs are hopeful the veteran’s supplemental claim will be approved.

Contact a VVA Veteran Service Officer to assist with your claim in states that have a benefits program here, or search for a VSO from another organization through the VA’s website in states where we do not. Enter your ZIP code or city and state, and you’ll see which VSOs serve your area.
