Spouses Access Accrued Benefits With VSO’s Help

A Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) veteran service officer (VSO) recently worked with the widow of a Vietnam veteran to file a Dependency & Indemnity Compensation (DIC) claim after her husband passed away from cancer with an active claim that was later approved.

The VSO filed for DIC and accrued benefits; it took eight months and considerable diligence, but the widow was awarded ongoing benefits payments and $11,000 in retroactive and accrued benefits.

Another surviving spouse filed a claim for DIC and accrued benefits; her DIC application is still pending, but she received more than $55,000 in accrued benefits.

Contact a VVA Veteran Service Officer to assist with your claim in states that have a benefits program here, or search for a VSO from another organization through the VA’s website in states where we do not. Enter your ZIP code or city and state, and you’ll see which VSOs serve your area.
