Multiple Conditions Increase Ratings for Two Veterans
In October 2023, a Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) veteran service officer (VSO) helped a veteran submit a claim for Parkinson’s disease due to toxic exposures at Camp LeJeune. Nine months later, the claim was granted — and multiple secondary conditions contributed to a combined rating of 100%. The veteran received a retroactive payment of $47,878.
Another veteran had been rated at 50% for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), plus 10% for service-connected lower-back problems and other issues for a total of 70%. The veteran’s conditions were worsening, however, so a VSO helped him apply for increases. He now receives 70% for PTSD and 40% for his lower back, resulting in an overall rating of 90%.
Contact a VVA Veteran Service Officer to assist with your claim in states that have a benefits program here, or search for a VSO from another organization through the VA’s website in states where we do not. Enter your ZIP code or city and state, and you’ll see which VSOs serve your area.
