Don’t Sleep on Accessing Benefits
If you have a service-connected health issue (and even if you currently don’t), it pays to connect to the system.
One Vietnam veteran who had never applied for VA benefits recently approached a Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) veterans service officer (VSO) in Massachusetts for support. The VSO was able to get the veteran enrolled in VA healthcare and submit an Intent to File form.
Subsequently, the veteran was able to submit a claim that resulted in a 60% rating for service-connected hearing loss and tinnitus. In addition to getting new hearing aids, the veteran will have enough money to pay the rest of his family’s bills for the foreseeable future.
Contact a VVA Veteran Service Officer to assist with your claim in states that have a benefits program here, or search for a VSO from another organization through the VA’s website in states where we do not. Enter your ZIP code or city and state, and you’ll see which VSOs serve your area.
