Don’t Doubt Your Eligibility for Benefits
A Navy veteran who served from 1969 to 1973 approached a Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) veteran service officer (VSO) about the claims process in 2015. He had served mostly aboard ship and didn’t think he was eligible for compensation, telling the VSO not to bother filing.
The VSO insisted that he should apply, however, and initiated a claim for service-connected respiratory issues. Last year, the veteran was granted 100% service-connected compensation dating back to 2015. He received a retroactive payment of more than $368,000.
Contact a VVA Veteran Service Officer to assist with your claim in states that have a benefits program here, or search for a VSO from another organization through the VA’s website in states where we do not. Enter your ZIP code or city and state, and you’ll see which VSOs serve your area.
