Disabled Veteran Granted $136K in Retroactive Benefits

The Vietnam Veterans of America Veterans Benefits Program team recently helped a woman who had served in the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Air Force access considerable retroactive benefits payments. She had been rated at 90%, but has been unable to work since 2015 due to service-connected disabilities.

After reviewing the medical evidence and lay testimony on record in the veteran’s case, Alec Ghezzi, deputy director of the program, determined that she met the criteria for a higher rating for PTSD and individual unemployability. The veteran was ultimately granted an increase to 70% for PTSD back to 2014 and unemployability to 2015, netting $136,230.35 in retroactive benefits.
