Disabilities Net Veteran $72K in Retroactive Payments
A veteran who served in the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Army was unable to work because of service-connected conditions including PTSD, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), nephrolithiasis (kidney stones), and traumatic brain injury (TBI). During multiple periods since 2016, he was rated incorrectly at 90% disabled, although he was at 100% by the time the VVA team looked at his case.
After reviewing the medical evidence and lay testimony, VSO Alec Ghezzi determined that the veteran met the criteria for a higher rating for GERD, nephrolithiasis, PTSD, TBI and individual unemployability. Further, Ghezzi argued that the veteran was also eligible for special monthly compensation due to the severity of his conditions.
The veteran was granted an initial rating of 30% for GERD, 30% for nephrolithiasis, 70% for PTSD and TBI, and individual unemployability, plus special monthly compensation dating back to June 2016. This resulted in his being paid $72,181.52 in retroactive benefits.
