Better Late Than Never on One Vet’s Claim

It’s never too late to explore the benefits for which you may be eligible as a veteran.

A Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) veteran service officer (VSO) met with a Vietnam veteran who had never previously contacted the Veterans Affairs (VA) for any reason last year. The VSO promptly helped the veteran submit an Intent to File and began working on a claim for issues related to his exposure to Agent Orange while deployed in Vietnam.

The veteran was ultimately granted a 70% rating; all claimed disabilities were attributed some level of service connection. The veteran received almost $40,000 in retroactive pay, and the VSO is now helping him get his spouse added to the award and completing a full review of the VA’s decision.

Contact a VVA Veteran Service Officer to assist with your claim in states that have a benefits program here, or search for a VSO from another organization through the VA’s website in states where we do not. Enter your ZIP code or city and state, and you’ll see which VSOs serve your area.
