Discharged Veteran Receives Health and Housing Benefits

A female veteran who was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army visited a Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) veteran service officer (VSO) last year seeking help with housing. She had been told numerous times before leaving the service in 1984 that she wouldn’t qualify for benefits because of the nature of her discharge.

The VVA VSO counseled the veteran on her eligibility, and she was soon provided with housing at the Sgt. Gomez Veterans Campus in Springfield, Mass. She also received a referral to the Veterans Outpatient Clinic, where she is receiving treatment for a medical condition. The veteran was emotional and appreciative for VVA’s assistance.

Contact a VVA Veteran Service Officer to assist with your claim in states that have a benefits program here, or search for a VSO from another organization through the VA’s website in states where we do not. Enter your ZIP code or city and state, and you’ll see which VSOs serve your area.
