Veterans Access Increased Benefits After Denials
A Vietnam veteran who was seeking an increase in benefits related to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) had seen his claim denied twice in the last five years. He visited a Massachusetts veteran service officer (VSO), who helped him reapply with a 21-0781 statement in support of his claim. The veteran’s rating was increased to 70% and backdated to August 2023.
A Gulf War vet also sought an increase to his PTSD benefits, which had stood at 30% since 2018. A claim filed in January 2024 resulted in a 100% rating for PTSD, backdated to September 2023.
Another veteran had been denied benefits for an undiagnosed eating disorder. The VSO suggested she apply for depression, and the veteran was rated at 50%. Another claim for migraine headaches was also awarded at 50%, for a total of 80%.
Contact a VVA Veteran Service Officer to assist with your claim in states that have a benefits program here, or search for a VSO from another organization through the VA’s website in states where we do not. Enter your ZIP code or city and state, and you’ll see which VSOs serve your area.
