Disabled Veteran Granted Special Compensation
Veterans’ Voice of America (VOA) received a grant of benefits from the Veterans Administration (VA) last week, earning a veteran suffering from squamous cell bladder cancer special monthly compensation (SMC) as of December 2023.
Normally, 100% is the highest award a veteran can get under the VA benefits system; the higher the percentage, the more compensation. Special monthly compensation (SMC) allows veterans whose conditions are particularly severe to get paid at a higher rate.
The veteran in question lives in Chicago and served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He is unable to work due to a service-related disability, and was previously rated at 100% for total disability based on individual unemployability (TDIU).
